A Hairy Man With A Hairy Ass-He Did Not Split Hairs

That's a quote from a Christopher Bram novel, "Gossip". Could well be justified I think, to say at my memorial, though that isn't going to happen any time soon, I hope.

I've been catching up on some reading, and while looking through a remainder pile recently, stumbled upon this book along with a Christopher Rice book titled, "Light Before Day".

Both books are enjoyable, easy reads. Both have some hot sex descriptions, and both hit hard on AIDS and the Age of Safer Sex.

It's like reading in the distant past. Hoping you are enjoying some great fiction and friction as well.

While I think of it, check out http://www.sexyhairyguys.com

This site is a fuzzy guys wet dream.

Don't forget to set your clocks ahead this Saturday before you go to bed. I know that something hot and hard will be springing up as well. Just a reminder. Yours in the public service. WOOF

Haven't We've Read This Before?

Some interesting food for thought.

The Last Gay Word: Making Men Meatby Brent Hartinger, March 22, 2006

Does anyone else think it's really ironic that our society's solution to the objectification of women wasn't to stop objectifying them, but rather to start objectifying men?

You can see it on the pages of any magazine or newspaper: sleek, ropy muscles; oiled chests shaved completely smooth; nipples jutting out like pencil erasers. As a kid, I remember when they use to airbrush the bulges out of underwear ads (I know because I was, uh, looking). But now they must airbrush the bulges in. Either that, or they're keeping photography studios a lot warmer than they used to.

Same for television. Honestly, One Tree Hill, The O.C., and Smallville are just a couple of steps away from Bel Ami porn videos, except with worse acting. And it's not just that there's more male flesh more openly on display; the flesh itself is sleeker, buffer, and more ripped.

Compare the masculine ideals of yesteryear to the physical specimens of today. These days, Burt Lancaster, Rock Hudson, and Burt Reynolds would be the scrawny kid on the beach in that old Charles Atlas comic book ad. Back then, not only was there no word for a “six-pack,” no one even knew such things existed. How is it possible, in the space of ten years, to create an obsession for whole new body part? Who knows, a decade from now, we might all be envying some model's “ripped” elbows. Young men, both gay and straight, have clearly taken the new “himbo” ethic to heart.

Go poke around Youtube.com. It seems like every other video is a young man showing off his muscles. I made movies when I was teenager too, but virtually none of them involved me and my friends stripping down to our briefs and flexing. No, we resigned ourselves to movies with plots (at least if you can call a story about a man-eating wig a “plot”). Straight men who shave their backs: it's not an unappealing combination. And straight teenage girls everywhere must surely appreciate the fact that it's not just gay boys who are flossing and wearing a good deodorant. (But when it comes to body sprays, a little goes a long way, guys.)

Why has all this happened? In fact, we can pin-point the exact date it started. It was that 1983 Calvin Klein underwear ad featuring Brazilian Olympic pole vaulter Tom Hintnaus leaning back against a phallic looking white obelisk. Designed to appeal to gay men, it debuted first in Times Square, but was then emblazoned directly onto a blank spot in our collective unconscious. ",

In other words, blame Calvin Klein. For good measure, you can also point fingers at Scott Madsen, the original Soloflex guy in all those late-night infomercials. No, seriously. It's all their fault. Anyway, this is, of course, all totally gay. The weird thing is, most straight guys don't see it as particularly gay. True, Abercrombie and Fitch had a brief public relations disaster a couple of years ago when word swept high school campuses across the country that the store was “gay.” Hmm, I wonder what clued them in -- the pairs of hot young men grunting and writhing around the football field in state of frenzied pre-orgasmic rut, or the piles of naked male bodies draped together in a post-orgy exhaustion?

Anyway, straight men are finally discovering what some honest women and gay men have known all along: sometimes it's fun to be an object of desire. That said, there's definitely a downside. Spent any time around a young man lately, gay or straight? They're often obsessed with abs, steroids, glutes, and protein shakes. When I was that young, all I used to worry about was making it so my hair didn't stick out in back. Oh, and these young guys almost all hate their bodies, certain that they don't measure up to the ideal. It doesn't matter how great they actually look. "

Oh, and these young guys almost all hate their bodies, certain that they don't measure up to the ideal. It doesn't matter how great they actually look.

In other words, they sound like women. I admit that I find it kind of sad that straight society has been so eager to pick up the parts of gay male society that are potentially the most unhealthy –- our obsession with youth and looks, and the whole casual hook-up phenomenon. Admittedly, they've also picked up some of our strengths –- our ironic wit, and our interest in different cuisines. (Needless to say, we get blamed for STDs, but we don't any credit for Golden Girls and olive bars.)

Some of my dumpy straight friends are even starting to complain that they're being “oppressed” by the new male ideal. And they're right: who can measure up to an airbrushed fantasy? But as one of my female straight friends likes to say, “Finally men are getting a small taste of what it's like to be a woman in this society. Imagine growing up with a female ideal that's anorexia with huge breasts.

This new male ideal is at least possible without reconstructive surgery.” She's absolutely right, of course. Modern-day Puritans who froth and rage at the “sexualization” of men don't seem to be aware that women have always been sexualized, only no one ever seems to notice. Why would they? It's so ubiquitous as to be invisible, except to the women and girls whose souls it is crushing. And so, even now, Tom Ford stays fully clothed on the cover of Vanity Fair while Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley recline naked at his feet. Female celebrities, no matter how famous, must apparently always strip down to their skivvies for photo-shoots. "

But things are changing even here. Increasingly, Ben Affleck and Colin Farrell are starting to unbutton the top two buttons on their jeans. Soon they'll be stripped down and spreading their legs wider than Charlize Theron in a high-profile glossy spread determined to prove that she's not really the dumpy coal-mining agitator of her latest movie. This is America's idea of progress? The truth is, it just proves that this is still a man's world. Men like to look; now that gay men have some measure of power, and the stigma about them has lessened a little, corporate America has decided it's okay to give them something to look at. It's ridiculous, it's exploitative, and it's dehumanizing. But as long as it's all around us, you can't really expect me to look away, right? And that, alas, is the last gay word.

Brent Hartinger is the author of the gay teen novel, Geography Club, which is currently being adapted for the movies. "Respect Other Opinions, For Dissension is the Progenitor of Democracy"", The sequel, The Order of the Poison Oak, is just out in paperback, and his latest novel, Grand & Humble, is in stores now. Explore "Brent's Brain," his website, at http://www.brenthartinger.com/.

All of that being said, woofiness is in the eyes of the beholder. Have a great one, guys. Big hairy muscle hugs of appreciation and gratitude.

Squeezing and Enjoying It By Playing Safely. But to others, Barebacking is the Norm for Sexual Pleasure.

The following goes to show that some gay men will make any excuse to practice unsafe sex, even bending the definition of what constitutes unsafe sex.

March 9, 2006 -- Are gay men who actively seek out condomless sex – or don't turn it down when offered – different from other gay men? And what value does sharing bodily fluids with another guy have for guys who do it, given the health risks? Perry Halkitis, a researcher from New York, has been studying the barebacking phenomenon since the word started being widely used in the late 1990s."But," he told the 9th CHAPS Conference, "the more I study 'barebacking' the less certain I know what it actually is." This is because gay men use the term in widely different ways. Some use it to mean seeking out condomless sex with casual partners on purpose. Others use it to mean any sexual situation where the sex wasn't safe. And gay men often make a distinction between casual condomless sex and doing it with a boyfriend – with the latter not regarded as barebacking. Halkitis recruited a group of 102 gay guys who self-identified as barebackers and asked them to take part in a questionnaire and a series of discussion sessions and interviews on what the term meant to them. About half the group was positive and half was negative – dispelling a perception that it's largely positive guys who do it bare. They were certainly 'busy boys' sexually, having on average racked up 833 sexual partners over their adult life. The majority were white but 30% were Latino and 10% black.Half of the men had a boyfriend, but the vast majority of those also had casual sex too.

They differed in their interpretation of what barebacking meant. More than half (54%) said you could only call it 'barebacking' where the unprotected sex was intentional – but 20% said accidental unsafe sex or rather just not maintaining condom use every time meant you were a barebacker.

So calling yourself a barebacker depends on the individual or the situation. Too bad these guys chose to play such a potentially deadly game. They truly are busy boys, on average racking up 833 sexual partners in their relatively short life span. Fucking their brains out with no fucking consideration of responsibility really pisses me off. But should any of this surprise us. Hell no.

On a more pleasant note, I just want to wish all of you studs the very best of St. Patrick's Day. I cherish you as my friends. We're all IRISH today, so embrace your bud and enjoy the fun.

Things I'd Like to Get Off My Chest.

A lot of different things have been happening recently that both piss me off and make me mad.
Yes, I am mad as hell and I'm not going to take it!!!

Item: Brokeback Mountain gets the shaft by the Academy. What a bunch of chickenshit voters who thought they did the "correct" thing by giving Ang Lee the award for best director, yet not casting their vote for Brokeback as best picture. What a hollow acknowledgement. Brokeback was nominated for best picture, had won it in previous awards, but was denied the ultimate, the Oscar for Best Picture. I am happy to read that there is a movement in Hollywood by some who are pissed off with this outcome to acknowledge that Brokeback Mountain was indeed the best picture for 2005.

Item: Edgar gets knocked off "24". Now, you may ask why that makes me mad. Again, this is "pick on gay men week in the media" and his character might well be gay., So what happens. They allow him to come into contact with the deadly gas that was leaked from the canister, and die. Sure, our hero, Edgar was a wuss most times, but Chloe had a soft spot in her heart for him as a friend and a colleague who she could push around. Next time, I wish they pick on some hairy muscle stud to work for CTU in their operations center who is gay and who would stand up to any of those terrorists.

Item: Moving Las Vegas to Friday nights. While that might not seem such an earth shattering thing, it is a dumb ass move. I like Las Vegas because it is mindless entertainment which doesn't hurt anyone. And it gets good ratings on Mondays. But Donald Trump whines and gets their Monday spot. So what happens, Trump loses 30 percent of the audience each week while Las Vegas retains its same audience share. The show has legs, but all the same, it should not have been moved to Fridays. I'd like to be the guy to say, "Trump, You Are Canceled. Get the hell off the air."

Boyfriend Material: The Urge to Make and Shape Him Into Your Own Creation

In the latest issue of "Details" magazine, our bud, Aususten Burroughs, reflects on how he, in the past had always sought out flaws in his boyfriends and wanted to rectify these "flaws" even though he was deeply flawed both physically and emotionally himself. Call it the "bitter Queen syndrome".

I had an old boyfriend who had a similiar quark in his impressions of men. One day I had enough of his judging and said that I could always find one quality in a guy, no matter what. He wouldn't hear of it and continued to be his ultra-judgemental self. Needless to say, I dumped him like a poisonous rattlesnake, which, in hind sight, he was.

Augusten has a similiar character flaw, but he is man enough to expose himself to his adoring public in a humorous way. He starts out transforming himself, saying, "So I started overhauling my ass. And at the end of the day working on his fixer-upper house, when you've been hoisting around your own, internal two-by-fours and reuilding your joists, you really don't want to go fiddle with somebody else's (body) parts and pieces." Needless to say, none of the butts pictured above are his.

What he's trying to say that you got to accept flaws in another guy, because who are you to judge, being flawed yourself. He mentions his current love, Dennis, who has a tendency to speak in a LOUD VOICE. So he learns to live with that. And faced with a list of dislikes that Dennis readily developed, Augusten has learned to try to become more the person Dennis would like him to be. So the tables are turned.

In life you have to take the good with the bad, the bitter with the sweet. When you fall for a guy, you fall for the entire man, not just pieces. You learn to accept him as he is, so called, warts and all. You accept him and even learn to find them endearing.

All of us can become better versions of ourselves. It takes self examination and listening to others. Constructive criticism is beneficial. There is always a better way to do something. You'd be surprised what can transform.

All this said, just try to be the best you can be. I love you guys.

It's All In The DETAILS

Another Details magazine hit my mailbox the other day.

As always, it never fails to print some thought provoking articles definitely with a gay male slant.

This article which I am about to comment about, is something on the line of my recent Buck Angel post. However these guys are men, not trannies, but men with a big problem. These guys featured have such a sex drive in wanting to fuck a guy that they choose to have their sex castrated. Yes, you read that right, they put their manhood on the chopping block, so to speak.

One of the guys interviewed was quoted as saying, "God wanted me castrated or else I wouldn't get into heaven." Oh brother, so much for saying our prayers and doing good deeds.

There are more than 50,000 of these procedures done each year by American men. God, can't these guys find another way to release their urges. Sure we all got a very healthy sex drive, but it seems that these guys have concluded that there is no other way to stop this than by having their schlong cut off.

Doing so does have its side effects. Guys face osteoporosis, weight gain, loss of muscle mass and man boobs. And these are side effects when a skilled surgeon performs an operation. A botched castration can lead to death and if you do survive this kind of knifing, the mutants face an entire more horrifying set of demons. These sadomasochists just love to slice these guys up, and more than likely, a botched up castration is a sure fire way to end up humiliated at the local emergency room.

Some of this is done for the purpose of living "a shear fantasy". The reader "meets" "Steve" who had it done because his boyfriend wanted it. The boyfriend sees castration as a sign of perfection. You think the boyfriend also had his dick chopped off. Oh no, he wanted Steve to do it to carry out his own fantasys. What sick minds there are out there. And these poor mixed up souls go through with it to please their men.

So because they feel that sex is running their lives, they feel that castration is their only salvation for allowing them to lead "normal" lives. I think that living a life like this, without your dick, is living your own hell on earth.

The article ended with a profile of Chris. He got his "fix" as a Christmas present to himself. He says instead of hours on the internet, he can now watch the shirtless hunks on "Lost". And he just met an incredible guy. He says, "He, (the new guy) is perfectly fine with the change I've made." Which isn't surprising, he's a eunuch too. And guys like Chris, keep their "leftovers", their cut off testicles as sort of a remembrance. Now this is about the sickest thing I have ever read. But for Details readership, we are being educated with more information than I think is necessary. Afterall, I guess, this kind of "in your face" journalism drives sales.

What these guys needed was another guy who might have given them the love they desperately needed. Perhaps the "right" man might have persuaded them to curtail their sexual drive, with passion and love, exchanging quality for quantity. Then maybe not. I am ever the eternal optimist. I sure hope these guys can live with themselves. They endured perhaps the cruelest cut of all.

Tids and Bits, This and That, Odds and Ends

Since we all have recovered from Dead Eye Dick Cheney's follies in recent weeks, I thought I touch briefy on several gay male stories circulating on the web:

HOT TOPIC 1: The Institute for Gay Men's Health has launched a safer sex website catering to younger gay men. The site is called: http://www.mysexycity.com

The L.A. based group has decided to focus attention to high risk groups of gay men and bisexuals, 18-29. The interactive nature of the animated site enables the visitor to click on various scenarios. It incorporates an animated cast of characters according to types of gay men found in our gay culture. It is definitely a step in the right direction. It shows guys having sex as well as practicing unsafe sex under risky behavior scenarios. I will have to check it out again when the site is updated to include an online connection.

HOT TOPIC 2

In other interesting research conducted on gay men and sex, researchers at Utrecht University in Amstedam found that penis size is very important to gay self esteem. The researches questioned 251 gay men and the group's average age was 29.

In interviews conducted and summarized, the study concluded that these gay men perceived that the larger their cock, the more confident they were both in lovemaking and life in general.

It was also found that tahe majority of gay men believed that a large cock was the major aattrtaction for potential sexual partners. Also the researchers found that after a large cock, these guys listed important body parts as their stomachs and their skin.

While size has its attribute, it isn't the most critical contribution in having great protected sex.
It's how you use it that matters. Also I would have listed nipples and pecs as other parts of the male anatomy as attractions with body hair rounding out this "wish" list.

Stay warm, sexy, and just the way you are. WOOF.

You Read It Here First, Or Maybe Not

That dude pictured on the right is a female-to-male transsexual porn star who's billed as "a real man with a real cunt". This does give new meaning to the term, "going through a phase".

See Buck Angel here is cashing in on unchartered porn territory, according to him. He describes himself growing up as the "proverbial straight guy trapped in a butch woman's body".

After transitioning ( going through the male hormones and breast reduction route), Buck became a "one of a cunt porn icon, not only making movies with gay men (among others), but making them largely for gay men.

Buck says that he is singlehandedly breaking down gay men's phobias in matters involving pussy and vaginas.
Quoting him, Gay men "finding me hot doesn't make them "not gay", because as you can see, I'm totally a man- I just happen to have a vagina." So as the saying goes in this case, and I can't take credit for it, for with Buck Angel, he believes that "two holes are better than one".

Buck bills himself as a hot, sexy guy with a serious following, and according to him, "never has to fake orgasms." This guy is definitely out of the box. He/she also supports the leather community. I would think there would be some controversy however, if he competed in International Male Leather.

This all goes to show that something or someone might not exactly be what he/she appears to be. Buck specializes in threesomes. No surprise here. Any takers?

Feels Like a Dusty Kind of Day

I'd like to share with you a little secret of mine, I am a big fan of Dusty Springfield. For me, she is the ultimate female singer. Her vocal range in outstanding. She helped me get over my operation by always being there at the flick of the CD player.

Anyway, to my surprise, I found out that the musical, "Dusty, the Original Pop Diva" is playing to smash reviews and critical acclaim in Melbourne, Australia. Melbourne is my absolute favorite best city I have ever visited. Too bad, I'm not well enough to travel that 15 hour flight from LA to Sydney and then connecting to Melbourne. If it was another time in my life, I'd find a way to do so. But for now, I got to hope that this smash musical finds its way to North America.

Check out the review at http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,17810201^2862,00.html

The lady went through a life of ups and downs, struggling to accept being gay. But she finally controlled all her demons, was living a great life, accepted unconditionally by her adoring fans until she lost her battle with breast cancer in 1999. She is an inductee of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. So little wonder, there is now a musical portraying and celebrating her life.

Yesterday, after coming in from reving up and using the snow thrower, I laid back on the sofa and had a Dusty moment. Of course I own a CD box set of her greatest recordings spanning the eras from the early 60's through the mid 90s. Her voice only got better with time. She could sing someone else's ballad and make it her own. She was the Diva of Divas and the Queen of White Soul, all wrapped up in one unique package. Both Aretha and Dionne Warwick were jealous of her. Even Cher learned a lot from Dusty, adopting some of her movements and making them her own. But Cher nor the rest of them could never attain the greatness of Dusty Springfield. She was a favorite of Burt Bacharach. She made "The Look of Love" her own. Her album, "Dusty in Memphis" is constantly listed on almost everyone's top 50 list. Her "Son of a Preacher Man" still gives me chills even though I have listened to it hundreds of times.

I could go on and on about Dusty. Judge her for yourself. And if you feel a little bluesy, download any of her recordings, and you'll discover or rediscover what her fans everywhere acknowledge as the best female pop singer ever.

Sinful Delights: Sweet, Sexy Treats to Pleasure That Special Man on Valentine's Day

I've been giving Valentine's Day some thought on this Super Bowl Sunday afternoon. Daddy Cupid has asked me to be one of his arrow guys on Valentine's Day. Of course, I accepted. Not having being able to be one of Daddy Santa's helpers got me down. But now, with a purpose, I am definitely feel a whole lot better. Hope I can live up to the task.

So what are you going to do to make that special man in your life feel extra special on the 14th? I suggest some or all of the following:

I bought several boxes of what the manufacturer calls, "Precious Petals" You can get them at various chain craft stores. They are distributed by Hirshberg, Schutz and Co. These are boxes of 300 silk rose petals that you can set the mood with. I suggest scattering from the entry door to the bedroom and then layering the bedtop with them. This definitely creates the mood for some passionate lovemaking.

Wearing a pair of pullaway warmups with a red jockstrap underneath would provide for that unexpected moment as well. Your white Bike jockstrap could be worn as well, maybe adding some iron-on hearts or cupids would add to the occasion. If you got the time, go for it. Remember, it's the thought that counts.

I'm an advocate of edible sweet treats used for sucking and smearing on the naked male body.
I found these edible body icings that are consistent in texture to make some after dinner foreplay more than memorable, and without adding any calories. These can be found in various flavors at
http://www.ebubbles.com or at http://www.marshallfields.com

Also the well known and yummy standby, whipped cream on a stiff cock can also be part of the fun. I suggest the Reddi-Whip aerosol can variety and a bottle of maraschino cherries, with the stems. Putting the cherry in your mouth dangling it from the stem and dropping it onto the body icing, whipped cream cock sundae will bring pure pleasure for both of you with every delectable lick.

Hoping this gives you some delicious ideas to make your Valentine's Day enjoyable and pleasurable. I know VDay falls on a weekday this year. That's why it's even more important that Daddy Cupid spreads as much safer mansex love around as possible. So guys, it's up to you to make your cutie pie feel like your studmuffin. Try to go beyond the box of candy and flowers this year. Doing something personal from the heart is the truest way of saying, "I love you".

Are You Guys Ready For Some Football?

Super Bowl Sunday for me is a day to chill out. I usually stay home. I used to head to the bars and watch the game, but it became more of a drag. The guys at the bar usually only wanted to watch half time stuff.

I like to watch the game and look for some hot butt. That's about all us guys can hope for. That's why I enjoy watching Aussie Rules Football more. These guys play in shorts and alot of them have awesome legs as well as cute butts. Being a hairy leg and hairy bubble butt guy, their muscular thighs and great spirit or spurt of sport gets me in the mood. Also I enjoy watching competitive swimming like these guys pictured here are doing or all they cruising? They look like they are ready to tackle each other.

I'd like to see the Steelers win. Since they represent the East Coast and they are the underdogs, they seem more determined to win. I remember their reign of terror in the late 70's. Yep, my love for football goes way back. I used to collect molded plastic figures of football players growing up.
Close up you could get a nice view of some butt and thigh, and even touch it. Maybe that's how I became a butt and leg guy. The sport I really like is Buff's rules for foreplay and man on man sex. In that competition, every guy wins. I guarantee that. WOOOF.

Oh the Sight of Shiny Chrome and Leather. Observations from the Motorcycle Show

Recently I ventured out to my first event involving crowds, the Motorcycle show. For a biker guy, this is almost like heaven. The glare of chrome just about everywhere and the smell of new leather. A lot of very hot bikes were on display, Harleys and custombikes, Japanese bikes, even some crotchrockets, Italian scooters and of course, dirt bikes. I even got my boots polished, but nothing like a bootblack would have done.

The Yamaha Star and the Kawasaki Vulcan lines were pretty impressive. Still these bikes cost more than 10 grand and are big bikes with 750 cc engines. The appear on the surface to be Harley knockoffs, but they do the rider plenty of motorcycle for the money. However, nothing beats or beatsoff the feel and ride of a Harley.

While my bike sits in the garage, I think wishful thoughts of warm, sunny weather, riding shirtless on my Hog. Then I will know that I have healed fully and that everything is right with the world again. Big hairy muscle hugs.

Married Men Who Play Gay On the Down Low, Living a Lie, But Can't Get Enough of Their Secret Gay Lifestyle

Leave it up to Details Magazine in its Jan/Feb 2006 issue to expose the common practice of so called straight married men hooking up with single gay men or other "married" gay men.

The article reports that these men frequent gay bathhouses and love to hook up during the week, like Monday nights during NFL season. One place where they play gay so their wives don't suspect this hanky panky are bathhouses in big cities like St. Louis. The Orgy Room is a popular hangout for these guys during weeknights. Lots of cash changes hands and plenty of wedding bands or tan lines on the fourth finger abound.

Some of the guys interviewed are very happy with this situation. They are happily married, but not the "quote-unquote stereotypical husband. They live in Red Republican states but gladly admit that they are a little pink underneath.

They hookup via the internet and have favorite bathhouses or bars to meet. Craigslist and Manhunt are popular places that they frequent on the net.

You would think they would be guilty playing around like this, and some do, but being found out and leaving their happy home is not a viable option for them. They have "traditional values" like having their wives put notes in their lunch sacks, going to church together, raising their children and sharing backyard barbecues with their neighbors.

But some find out soon enough that they can't have it both ways. I knew a guy just like this. He finally had to tell his wife. So she compromised. He could go out to the discos with her, dance his ass off with the guys, but at the end of the night, he would have to go home with her. For a while it lasted, but eventually he strayed and she couldn't give in anymore.

One of the guys interviewed for the story, Alex Westerfelt is project director of a group called Kansas' Healthy Living Project. The group gets grant money to sponsor such educational presentations like "Park Queen", a program promoting nonsexual "adult behavior" in public parks and conducted by a police officer. I guess the cop tells them it's a no-no to introduce yourself to some other dude during your park visit by rubbing his crotch in public when a handshake would do just fine.

While you'd think the vast majority of these guys are over 40, there are guys in their 20's who are married to women and are in a state of denial in saying, "I'm not really gay and don't want to live a gay life". What they are trying to do, according to Westerflet is "fill the emotional need they have to be ina relationship with a man, and they substitute physical intimacy for emotional intimacy". To me that is a recipe for a fucked up life, not only yours, but your wife and kids.

The article identifies this guy, "Chad" who is a father of three, who meets strangers in mall restrooms for mutual masturbation- when he's not volunteering along side his wife at church fundraisers. He rationalizes, why come out, when that would me giving up the camping vacations with his family, showing off the kids to the in-laws at Christmas, cheering alongside his wife at their basketball and softball games. This kind of guy is just bad news. He is too much of a coward to come clean with himself and his family. He is the most dangerous kind of guy a gay man could ever encounter.

I won't even go into how starved they are for sex that they can expose their wives to HIV and other diseases when they let their guard down and have unprotected sex. What these guys need is a big boot up their asses. On second thought, for some of them, that might be too much of a good thing.

What's On My Mind? Beefcake!

The other day I was doing my usual Google searches for interesting topics to write about when I came across an interesting article about beefcake calendars. Yea, I still have this fantasy about 12 of us being featured in a calendar someday to raise safer sex awareness.

The author, Byron Beck, writes Queer Window in the weekly Willamette Oregon weekly. Check him out at http://www.wweek.com/editorial/3210/7136/.

Darn it, that click button gave me three images of the NYC 2006 firefighters calendar Byron was writing about. Well, as they say, all good things come in threes. WOOOF.

Anyway, Byron writes that the Portland firefighters calendar missed a golden financial opportunity to be more revealing and thus more profitable. They didn't show enough skin, and that's too bad. For me, showing skin is a healthy expression of who I am. It makes me feel good to see guys who express their bodies without shame and who take pride in themselves as active gay men.

Byron likes his beefcake and so do all of us. These calendars have been around for a while. They are a source of additional income for organizations and groups. Some are duds, but others have become institutions.

For gay men, images of beefcake can make or break our day. And if it's for a good cause, why not? The FAB 5 on Queer Eye thought the same thing on a recent episode. They invade the straight world of the Fraternal Order of Moose and bring their magic touch to the lodge. These Moose guys seem to be a good natured bunch and the FAB 5 enlist them for a calendar project to raise funds for their various charities. They have not been very successful in recent years raising funds, so they were game for a beefcake calendar shoot.

Some of the guys are hunky and did some hot shoots being macho construction workers or sitting on a throne, or other manly occupations. It definitely was one of their better programs.

Kyan is in charge of "checking out the goods". Oh brother. But the photographer was awesome and most of the shoots emerged quite woofy. Only one guy, the youngest of the Moosemen, came off as stressed out. And he just had an "ok" bod.

It just goes to show that even straight men who aren't afraid of their bodies can get together, strip down and enjoy the flow. Just think of what a bunch of hot gay guys would do in the same situation. Quoting Bryon, "We pick up these things (beefcake calendars) up in the first place to raise our temperatures-and a few other things, too." I can't argue with that.

My Thoughts on "Brokeback Mountain" and "Book of Daniel"

Howdy men. Just got back from the multiplex to see, "Brokeback Mountain".

It is a tender love story with beautiful outdoor scenery depecting the wilds of Wyoming but shot in Alberta, Canada.

Our heros, Ennis and Jack, do have a deep love, which of course is ended by the death of Jack.

While I don't particularly like gay love stories that end in death, the story was realistic for the time period, the early sixties to late seventies.

I don't think I can do justice reviewing the movie. Just go see it. It is worth the admission.

It is well acted, Heath Ledger is brilliant as Ennis, and the music score is fantastic.

For their love to happen, one of them was the agressor, this being Jack, played by hottie, Jake
Gyllenhaal, makes the first move and keep up the sporatic, but long term relationship.

Both men marry but can not resist their love for each other.

Heath's Ennis is the quiet one, and the character I can relate to, the most. Though I have been the initiator on occasion, so I can also relate to Jack.

It's more about body heat and urges. These men need the emotional as well as the physical attraction each holds for the other. The bond is definitely there.

What I left the movie theater was a relief that I live in the world today, and not 40 years ago, as an open gay man. While things aren't totally easy for any of us, we do have the freedom to mate, to connect, to love one other far more openly than these men could ever dream of.

On a far lighter note is the new TV series, "Book of Daniel". Here gay and lesbian characters too face heartache, but also the support of an understanding family, though quirky as it may be.

The scenes and dialog flow much like "Desperate Housewives" but with a religious slant. The characters need to further evolve, but for now, the gay characters have acceptance within a complicated but funny world. No one has died on this series so far. Whatever the religious wrong doesn't like about this series, it is of no importance. The series, if it is successful, will have to grow on the public. To survive, the show has to find a wider and/or more devoted audience.

If you guys have seen either one of these gay themed entertainment "events", feel free to comment. For a blustry weekend, they provided some welcome escape as well as reflection.

Predictions For What's Left of the New Year

Seems like everyone has there own take on predictions for the New Year. Here are some of my picks:

1. Brokeback Mountain will win at least one Oscar.

2. The Pitt-Jolie baby will be a girl.

3. The Dow will fall back under 11000.

4. Alito, unfortunately, will be confirmed as the next US Supreme Court justice.

5. Queer Eye will do a gay wedding show. The grooms will lock Carson in a closet and get fitted for his and his leather tux.

6. If it doesn't snow much on the East Coast by March, it will be a mild winter. The Groundhog, however, will see his shadow.

7. Southern Decedance in New Orleans will return with a vengence, bigger and better.

8. The winner of 2006 International Male Leather in Chicago on Memorial Day weekend will be bearded and muscular. He will win because he looks the hottest in a bar vest.

9. More gay male couples will marry this year in Canada, UK and Massachusetts. Some will be famous. Some who have already married will get divorced as well.

10.. All of you guys will continue to be studly, cuddly and hunky.

You Just Never Know What You'll Find Cleaning Up Around the House

Every year around this time, I like to clean up around the house. I had come across a box of books and magazines I had stored on a shelf in the basement when I moved. I needed the storage space to put away some Christmas decorations, so I started rummaging through the box. A little part of my life was stored in that box. I had come across a 20 year old Spartacus Guide for Gay Men.

The world seemed a little less complicated a generation ago. For instance on page 35 of that edition which had a hot illustration of a hot dude drawn by the artist, Salmov, it listed under Kabul, Afghanistan, the Flower House Hotel on Chicken Street, ( I didn't make this up) with the following description: "Local youths who visited the restaurant were very beautiful and friendly." The informational listing also stated the following, "We fear that homosexuality is illegal and that you have to be very much on your guard." Things somehow never quite change.

Amsterdam and San Francisco seemed to have the most gay listings with New York not far behind. Lots of sex shows were listed, which would be somewhat scaled back today, replaced by more escort services. Various gay bars and guest houses took full page ads illustrating their accomodations and their guests having fun. Not a hairy chest to be found in this edition, but some moustached faces graced certain advertisements, hanging on to the clone look of the late 70's and early 80's. Even Damron's took a quarter page ad at the beginning of the USA listings.

It had been a few years since I came out, and 1986 seemed to be my year to travel to Boston, Hot'lanta, NYC, Chicago, San Diego, LA and other places. And I wanted to know more about gay places in the world. Both of these guides were the only references out there at the time for gay men. Before the internet, a gay guide had to depend on dated information and hope that the establishments listed were still in business. More times than not, the bar that seemed hot when you read the listing, was no longer around. But there seemed to be a new one nearby. You learned to find more current information once you got to your destination by word of mouth.

Today, with the net, this lack of updated information doesn't exist. So guys who are treking out for their first gay adventure, have plenty of current sources to take the mystery and sometimes misery out of gay traveling.

So you'll never know what you might find rummaging through a box stored away on a hidden shelf. Looking through that Spartacus guide brought back good memories. But I was too young back then , too afraid, and too skinny to have given big hairy muscle hugs in my bar vest, boots and leather jeans. That's why I like to live in the present and be able to share insights and thoughts with you guys.

Happy New Year and other stuff

Howdy guys. Wishing you the best of New Years. Hoping that Daddy Santa brought you everything you wanted.

My Holiday was a little different this year. I had to skip being one of Daddy Santa's helpers. That was a downer. My Mom visited. She is very sweet and the visit went fine, but something was missing.

As I saw her off yesterday at the boarding area of the airport, (thank goodness that relatives can get to see their Moms and Dads to the boarding area) I had mixed feelings. Maybe because of going through security with my new titanium hip which did present its own challenges, I felt that things did personally change for me in 2005.

But you cope. Everyone changes their lives to fit the situation. It could be worse, you tell yourself. So you get on with your life.

With that in mind, here are my resolutions for 2006.

1. Getting rid of this f@#king cane. I have found that a cane, even if I was shirtless, is not a positive thing. It is an annoyance. It doesn't get you any pity sex. Nothing. So a shirtless hairy hunk would be better off walking his dog than walking with his cane.

2. Growing bigger tomatoes. I will start sowing seeds later next month and begin growing plants indoors. I enjoy that very much. There is always something about getting my hands dirty. So I will pick proven varieties that will yield more fruit. Never can get enough of fruit, guys.

3. Being a better top man. I feel that I let some guys down during this recovery thing. I guess you can tell your true friends during adversity. But I wasn't my usual self, these last several months. I need to continue on the soapbox promoting gay men's health issues, safer sex practices, and being there for gay men who have doubts about what it is to be a gay male. We continue to live in complex times. Those of us who have taken this path less traveled, can make it easier for newly active gay men to get it right the first time and enjoy gay life. "Brokeback Mountain", though a flick and fictional, is a good start. Setting safer sex examples is another way.

4. Doing more with less. As we get older, we have to face various challenges. Keeping up our bodies, our minds, our sense of humor. So I am going to make sure I can be the best I can personally be. But this takes a mindset. So I will try to be very positive and strong, but I won't accept things as they are. Together we can make life better for all gay men.

5. Appreciating the simplier pleasures of life. I will spend more time enjoying sunsets, watching wildbirds and squirrels at the bird feeder, breathing the spring and summer air, listening to good music, being sensitive to my surroundings.

6. Giving more hugs. A guy can never give enough hugs to another guy. I wasn't doing this much these past several months. When I did, the f@#king cane would fall to the ground. And I can't bend like I used to. But I continue working on that. Another reason for hot bottom guys and their good hips and knees, and showing them the appreciation they rightfully deserve.

So there are my resolutions for 2006. Predictions are the subject of a future blog post.

It wouldn't be me if I didn't wish all of you studs big happy hairy muscle hugs and best wishes for the New Year.
